Adding GST vs. Removing GST

Add GST (Exclusive)

Use this mode when you have the base cost of a product or service, and you need to calculate the final price after adding the applicable GST.

GST Amount = (Base Price × Rate) / 100
Final Price = Base Price + GST Amount

Remove GST (Inclusive)

Use this mode when you have the total price of an item (like the MRP), and you need to figure out what the original price was before GST was added.

GST Amount = Total Price - [Total Price × (100 / (100 + Rate))]
Net Price = Total Price - GST Amount

Understanding the GST Slabs in India

12%

Apparel above ₹1,000, computers, processed foods, and business class air travel.

18%

The most common slab. Applies to most services, financial services, hair oil, soap, and capital goods.

28%

Luxury items, automobiles, consumer durables (ACs, Refrigerators), and sin goods (tobacco).
